Wärtsilä is a Finnish manufacturer with a history going back to 1834, and its engines run in vessels and power plants around the world. The Wärtsilä 34 is one of its medium-speed four-stroke engines. The dual-fuel Wärtsilä 34DF is based on the proven Wärtsilä 32 diesel engine introduced in the mid-1990s and can run entirely on gas.
At sea, it is used as a main engine in configurations from 6L to 16V, and on land it powers generating sets in 12V, 16V and 20V configurations. Because of this shared design, many components resemble those of the Wärtsilä 32. Our experience with both engine types works to your advantage. A complete range, from block to bearings
Engine operators often need more than a single part, so we built our Wärtsilä 34 range to cover the entire engine. For the base of the engine, we supply the cylinder block and the crankshaft. These are large components that many suppliers don’t carry at all. Crankshafts that have been ground to an undersize are delivered with the correct matching bearings, so you don’t need to source them separately.
The drive train is completed by the connecting rod and the camshaft section. Connecting rods are repaired according to fixed procedures, including restoring the bearing seat surface so that the bearing stays firmly in position.
Combustion chamber parts
The parts around the combustion chamber take the heaviest load in any engine. We supply the cylinder head together with the piston, the cylinder liner and the valve tappet. Each cylinder head follows a fixed work plan:
- cleaning, blasting and measuring
- machining corroded exhaust valve seats to the correct oversize where needed
- pressure testing at operating temperature, so we can rule out cracks and leaks
Pistons are measured for ovality against the manufacturer’s limits. Parts that fall outside these limits do not leave our workshop.
Supporting systems
Reliable cooling, lubrication and fuel supply are just as important as the core of the engine. For the cooling system, we supply the coolant pump, the air cooler and the tube bundle. We also supply the multiduct, which channels several flows through a single component.
For lubrication, choose from the lubricating oil pump and the oil pump, combined with a centrifugal filter to keep the oil clean. For the fuel system, we supply the fuel pump.
