Product Description
The crankshaft of the Wärtsilä 34 is forged in one piece and mounted in the block in an under-slung arrangement; on the V-versions, the connecting rods of both cylinder banks sit side by side on the same crank pin, increasing standardisation between the in-line and V engines.
Because this engine regularly switches operating mode, the torsional loading pattern on the crankshaft keeps shifting along with the transition between gas and diesel combustion; a correctly functioning torsional vibration damper at the free end is therefore more the rule than the exception. Precision measurement of crank pin diameters remains the core of our inspection.
