Wärtsilä 34 Air cooler
Product Description
The charge air of the Wärtsilä 34 passes through a two-stage cooler: under normal conditions the HT circuit handles the first stage and the LT circuit the second, fine-tuning stage. At low ambient temperatures, however, the engine switches over, and both stages run through the LT circuit, in the sequence charge air cooler, oil cooler, HT cooler, to keep the charge air temperature above the required 35°C.
This switch-over makes the cooler more sensitive to performance loss than on engines with a fixed flow order: light fouling that would barely register at normal operating temperature can, in the cold-weather configuration, push the charge air temperature too low and create a condensation risk inside the cooler itself.
Toes Group has two-stage charge air coolers for the Wärtsilä 34 available, new and reconditioned, tested for leak-tightness per stage.
