Wärtsilä 34 Connecting Rod
Product Description
The connecting rod of the Wärtsilä 34 departs from the classic three-piece design: it's split horizontally at the lower end, so the piston and connecting rod can be removed together as a single unit through the cylinder liner instead of via the crankcase. All rod bolts are hydraulically tightened and the gudgeon pin bearing is of tri-metal design.
This removal method saves time during major overhauls, but it also places different demands on the condition of the split face itself: a slight irregularity there is less forgiving than on a classic three-piece design, since the split face carries load directly as part of the chain. Oil is also led to the gudgeon pin bearing and piston through a bore in the rod.
Toes Group has connecting rods for the Wärtsilä 34 available for all in-line and V-configurations, new and reconditioned, with specific inspection of the split face and the oil bore.
