Wärtsilä 34 Piston
Product Description
Like other engines in this product line, the piston of the Wärtsilä 34 is a composite design with a nodular cast iron skirt and a steel crown. The skirt is pressure-lubricated, and the piston itself is cooled via the connecting rod according to the cocktail-shaker principle.
On a dual-fuel engine, the combustion characteristics differ just enough between gas and diesel operation to build up thermal load on the piston crown differently over time compared with an engine running on a single fuel only; the hardened ring grooves are specifically designed with this in mind. During reconditioning we therefore measure not just dimensions, but the crown's condition in relation to the engine's actual operating profile.
Toes Group supplies pistons for the Wärtsilä 34 in all in-line and V-configurations, new and reconditioned, with precision measurement of the skirt, crown and ring grooves.
