Product Description
In addition to the engine-driven main lube oil pump, the Wärtsilä 32 has an electrically driven prelubricating oil pump, built as a gear pump with its own safety valve. This pump is meant to run continuously whenever the engine is stopped, so that bearings and other critical components are already under pressure lubrication before the engine even reaches cranking speed at the next start.
If this pump fails or wears out, the engine will typically still start, but without the protective prelubrication meant to bridge those first, vulnerable seconds of start-up. On standby installations, where the engine regularly stops and restarts, the condition of this pump is therefore especially relevant.
