Product Description
On the Wärtsilä 32, the cams are integrated directly into the drop-forged shaft material, while the bearing journals are separate pieces attached to the camshaft sections via flange connections. The camshaft bearing housings are cast fully into the engine block and are therefore completely closed, meaning the bearings can only be fitted or removed using dedicated hydraulic tooling.
The camshaft is driven from the crankshaft through a gear train, and each section is closed off with its own cover, sealed against the engine block with an O-ring profile. Leakage at such a cover is often only noticed once oil is already visible on the block, while the actual cause in practice is usually a hardened or damaged O-ring.
