Product Description
The plate cooler is a compact heat exchanger that cools the cooling water or lubricating oil of the Wärtsilä 20 through a pack of thin, profiled plates. Thanks to the large exchange surface within a limited volume, the plate cooler offers efficient cooling in a relatively small footprint compared with more traditional coolers.
Fouling between the plates or a leaking gasket reduces cooling capacity and can even cause cooling water and oil to mix. Periodic inspection and cleaning of the plate cooler is therefore important to keep the engine within its operating temperature.
