Product Description
The cylinder block forms the foundation of the Wärtsilä 20 engine: it houses the cylinders and carries and aligns the crankshaft, camshaft and other drive components. As the structure that carries all forces generated during combustion, this large casting must be entirely free of cracks, porosity and dimensional deviations.
Because the cylinder block forms the base on which almost every other component is mounted, even small deviations in flatness or alignment carry through to the rest of the engine, from bearing clearance to the position of the cylinder liners. Checking the block is therefore one of the most labour-intensive, but also one of the most important, steps in reconditioning.
