Product Description
The connecting rod links the piston to the crankshaft and converts the piston's linear, up-and-down motion into the rotating motion of the crankshaft. This component is continuously exposed to alternating tensile and compressive forces with every revolution of the engine.
Because the connecting rod is loaded in both tension and compression on every stroke, and the bearing bushes at the top and bottom must be precisely aligned, material fatigue is a real concern. Careful inspection for cracks and dimensional accuracy of the bearing bushes is therefore essential before a connecting rod is put back into service.
