Product Description
The piston of the Wärtsilä Vasa 32 is of composite design and uses the skirt lubricating system Wärtsilä patented for this generation, which supplies the piston skirt evenly with oil under all operating conditions. This predates the cocktail-shaker cooling that became standard on later Wärtsilä engines.
After many years in service, wear to the ring grooves and slight erosion on the piston crown is a real concern on this engine generation; a gradually rising oil consumption is often the first sign that a piston needs replacing, well before compression noticeably drops.
