Product Description
The lube oil pump of the Wärtsilä Vasa 32 normally keeps the lubricating oil at around 60 to 65°C before the engine, with an alarm and stop limit typically around 75 to 80°C; outside those margins, the risk of insufficient lubrication to bearings and pistons rises quickly.
On an engine that has already been in service for a long time, the pump element is more prone to wear than on a new unit, and this usually shows up as a slowly shifting temperature and pressure balance rather than a sudden failure. Periodic checks of pump output are therefore a valuable preventive measure.
