Product Description
The cylinder head of the Wärtsilä Vasa 32 closes off the cylinder and distributes charge air, exhaust gas and cooling water through the multiduct interface, so the head can be lifted during major overhauls without having to disconnect every pipe separately. This is exactly the same principle Wärtsilä carried through into later engine generations.
Because the Vasa 32 is by now an older generation often already in service for several decades, the risk of pitting corrosion or erosion in the head's cooling channels is greater than on newer units; that's precisely why extra wall-thickness measurements during reconditioning pay off, alongside the usual inspection of the valve seats.
