Product Description
The connecting rod of the Wärtsilä Vasa 32 is a forging with a horizontally split big end featuring serrated mating faces, so the two halves always return to exactly the same position on reassembly. The small end is stepped to achieve a larger bearing surface than a straight bore would allow.
On this older engine generation, the big and small end bearing shells are fully interchangeable, made of tri-metal or bi-metal, which simplifies field maintenance: a worn shell can be replaced without replacing the whole connecting rod, provided the serrated face itself is still in good condition.
