Product Description
The piston of the MaK M25 moves up and down in the liner and, via the connecting rod, converts combustion pressure into mechanical work. Due to the long 400 mm stroke relative to the 255 mm bore, the piston on this engine type travels a greater distance per revolution than on a short-stroke engine of comparable bore.
That longer stroke path also means a higher average piston speed at the same rpm, which places relatively greater load on the piston rings and ring grooves; wear here reduces compression and increases oil consumption, and in the case of serious damage can lead to engine seizure.
