Product Description
The cooling water jacket of the MAN 21/31 is a nodular cast-iron jacket that encases the cylinder liner in its upper section and centres it in the crankcase, distributing cooling water evenly around the liner precisely where combustion heat is greatest. The lower section of the liner is guided directly by the crankcase, without its own cooling jacket.
This separation between jacket and liner, as two distinct components, is a deliberate design choice to control deformation from cooling and combustion heat as effectively as possible; a leaking or deformed jacket can create local hot spots on the liner even when the liner itself is still in good condition.
