Product Description
The type designation 21/31 refers directly to this engine's main dimensions: a cylinder bore of 210 mm and a stroke of 310 mm, giving a stroke-to-bore ratio of 1.48:1. The engine frame is a monobloc cast-iron construction held entirely under compression stress, resulting in a very rigid frame with favourable force transfer from the cylinder head down to the crankshaft.
The engine is supplied exclusively in in-line form, in configurations from 5 to 9 cylinders, and the base frame is flexibly mounted while also serving as the lubricating oil reservoir for the whole engine. This combination of rigidity and a shared oil system determines how the engine distributes forces and heat along its full length.
