Cylinder block MAN 16/24
Product Description
The model designation 16/24 refers directly to this engine's main dimensions: a cylinder bore of 160 mm and a stroke of 240 mm. The engine frame is a monobloc cast-iron structure held entirely under compression by hydraulically tensioned tie rods, resulting in a very rigid construction with low surface vibration.
The crankshaft is mounted in an under-slung arrangement, with the main bearings carried in heavy supports connected to the frame by those same tie rods; the base frame also serves as the engine's lubricating oil reservoir. This construction is what determines how forces are carried from the cylinder head down to the crankshaft, and therefore the service life of the whole engine.
Toes Group has engine frames for the MAN 16/24 available for the configurations 5L16/24 through 9L16/24, new and reconditioned, checked for dimensions, flatness and the condition of the tie rods.
