Product Description
The MAN 16/24 is fitted with two separate camshafts: one for valve actuation and one used solely for fuel injection. The injection camshaft is positioned on the service side of the engine and, via its lobes, controls the exact moment at which each fuel pump delivers its dose.
Because this shaft is entirely independent of valve actuation, wear or a deviating cam profile here affects only injection timing, not valve opening; that makes targeted diagnosis of irregular combustion easier, but it also means this shaft needs its own dedicated attention during reconditioning.
