Product Description
The crankshaft of the MAN 16/24 is mounted in an under-slung arrangement in the monobloc engine frame and rests in main bearings that are firmly connected to the frame via hydraulically tensioned tie rods. This construction gives the crankshaft an unusually rigid support, contributing to a long service life across the full 5- to 9-cylinder in-line range of this engine type.
Because the base frame of this engine also serves as the lube oil reservoir, the crankshaft is constantly surrounded by the circulating oil; correct alignment and surface quality of the crank pins is therefore essential to prevent bearing damage within that shared oil system.
