Wärtsilä 38 Piston
Product Description
In keeping with this engine's 380 mm bore and 475 mm stroke, the piston of the Wärtsilä 38 is considerably larger and heavier than on the smaller Wärtsilä types, yet follows the same proven construction: a light-alloy or cast iron skirt combined with a crown that absorbs the highest combustion pressures, cooled via the connecting rod according to the cocktail-shaker principle.
With this larger cylinder displacement, the absolute thermal and mechanical load per piston is correspondingly higher than on smaller engine types; a small imbalance in cooling oil supply or slight wear on the ring grooves therefore affects compression and oil consumption sooner here than on a smaller piston.
Toes Group supplies pistons for the Wärtsilä 38 for the configurations 6L38, 8L38, 9L38, 12V38 and 16V38, new and reconditioned, with precision measurement of the skirt, crown and ring grooves.
