In addition to the lube oil pump, the Wärtsilä 26 also has an oil pump that maintains oil pressure in the wider lubrication system of the engine. Constant, correctly set oil pressure is essential for the reliability of all moving components, from bearings to valves.
A declining oil pressure, for example due to wear in the pump or a worn relief valve, is often one of the first signs of a deeper problem in the lubrication system. Timely inspection and, if necessary, replacement of the oil pump prevents unnecessary wear elsewhere in the engine.
